The blade sets on a stand where the sawyer can rotate the blade while it is setting flat on the anvil. The Sawyer strikes the blade in a regular pattern to put tension in the metal so that the blade does not flutter or vibrate while turning. WebSawyers anvil; used to straighten sawblades. Will work just as good for hammering but it doesn't have a horn, nor a hardy or pritchel hole. You can make all sorts of stuff to replace those but it's additional work and not quite as handy.
